President Aliyev gives green light to Azerbaijan–Latvia interior ministries pact
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has approved an agreement on cooperation between the ministries of internal affairs of Azerbaijan and Latvia, signed on April 22 in Baku.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs has been instructed to ensure the implementation of the agreement’s provisions, while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will notify the Latvian government about the completion of domestic procedures required for the agreement to enter into force.
On April 22, 2026, Azerbaijan and Latvia held a high-level document exchange ceremony in Baku during the official visit of Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs. Among the key outcomes was the signing of an agreement on cooperation between the interior ministries of both countries, exchanged by Azerbaijan’s Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov and Latvia’s State Secretary of the Interior Ministry Dimitrijs Trofimovs.
The visit was part of broader efforts to deepen the strategic partnership established in 2017, with both sides also discussing expanded cooperation in security, governance, and institutional development. The agreement is framed within a wider package of bilateral documents aimed at strengthening practical cooperation across multiple sectors.
