President Aliyev: Armenian authorities realized need for signing peace treaty
President Ilham Aliyev is attending the international conference “South Caucasus – development and cooperation” in Baku on Friday.
According to Caliber.Az, the Azerbaijani president, said the following:
“Thanks to ADA University for its contributions to the organization of this event. We met with you and discussed issues of the post-war period and the restoration of the region. I am very glad that ADA, one of the leading universities, has submitted this initiative, and by the way, a new Italian university will soon be opened in Azerbaijan under the auspices of ADA.
Our guests visited Shusha, I hope it was an interesting trip. They saw destruction on the way there and in Shusha itself, and this is the best illustration of what we have experienced in the last 30 years. This is the result of barbarism during the 30-year Armenian occupation, in most regions all cities and villages were wiped off the face of the earth, and in some regions - Kalbajar, Lachin, part of Zangilan - illegal programs
We have big plans for the reconstruction of Karabakh, we receive support from friendly countries, and we also intend to work with leading international organizations to present our projects for the development of the region. Now we are actively promoting a new era - an era of development and prosperity. The Armenian government has finally accepted the 5 basic principles proposed by Azerbaijan, and we hope that they will become the basis for long-term peace. Thus, Armenia agreed to the creation of a joint commission on demarcation and delimitation. The Armenian leadership realized the need to sign a peace agreement, in this case, peace in the Caucasus would be long-term and lasting. We are restoring Karabakh, we are allocating resources, and large funds from the budget, we are for peace in the Caucasus, and we are putting forward initiatives aimed at the development of peace.
Thanks to all the participants of the event, we will consider their proposals in interactive communication and other forms of communication, perhaps even in other parts of the republic [Azerbaijan], for example, in Aghdam,” President Aliyev said.
Speaking about the next such meeting that could be held in Lachin, the Azerbaijani president said an international airport would be launched in Lachin in 2024, while this year a new airfield would become operational in Zangilan.
