Azerbaijan wraps up inauguration ceremony of new power plant in Mingachevir PHOTO / UPDATED

On June 24, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev visited the monument to National Leader Heydar Aliyev located on the premises of the “Azerbaijan” Thermal Power Plant in Mingachevir.

Following the visit, President Aliyev met with guests participating in the inauguration ceremony of the newly constructed "8 November" Power Plant, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

During the meeting, the significance of the project was emphasised, with particular recognition of the involvement of Italian and Chinese companies. The timely and successful completion of the power plant was acknowledged with satisfaction.

The inauguration ceremony of the "8 November" Power Plant then commenced.

President Ilham Aliyev delivered a keynote address at the event, highlighting the project's strategic importance for Azerbaijan's energy sector. He was followed by speeches from Italy’s Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, CEO of Italian energy firm Ansaldo Energia Fabrizio Fabbri, Chairman of China’s Dongfang Electric Corporation Chen Qiang, and Director of Energy Production Operations at AzerEnergy JSC Uzeyir Yusifov.

Subsequently, President Aliyev and Minister Adolfo Urso officially inaugurated the plant.

As part of the visit, President Aliyev and the guests toured the section of the power plant that came under missile attack during the 2020 Patriotic War. On October 4, 2020, a “Smerch” multiple-launch rocket system targeted the facility, with a missile landing between the sixth and seventh energy blocks. A second missile was launched on October 11, striking near the Control Center. Thanks to effective preemptive defence measures, both attacks were neutralised without causing damage.

The ceremony also heard speeches by Italy’s Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso, CEO of the Italian company Ansaldo Energia Fabrizio Fabbri, Chairman of the Board of China’s Dongfang company Chen Qiang, and Director of Energy Production Operations at AzerEnergy JSC Uzeyir Yusifov.

Afterwards, President Aliyev and Italy’s Minister for Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso officially inaugurated the power plant.

At this moment, the opening ceremony of the "8 November Power Plant" is taking place in Azerbaijan’s Mingachevir District.

Addressing the ceremony, the head of state emphasised: “The establishment of this power plant and the completion of all works in a short period demonstrate our country’s strength, potential, and the experience and professionalism of our energy specialists. Today, the ”8 November” Power Plant is the largest power station in our country.”
