President Aliyev: Azerbaijan always supports "One China" policy PHOTO

On April 23, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev emphasised that Azerbaijan always supports the "One China" policy and condemns the elections in Taiwan.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani president's press service.

The president also noted the joint fight between Azerbaijan and China against terrorism, extremism, separatism, and radicalism.

Zhao Leji expressed satisfaction with Azerbaijan’s steady development under the leadership of Ilham Aliyev, the growing international standing of the country, its economic achievements, and the improvement of the population's welfare. 

He stated that the sincere and friendly relations between China and Azerbaijan are of a strategic partnership nature. According to Zhao Leji, thanks to the efforts of the leaders of both countries, Azerbaijani-Chinese relations are now at their highest point in history.

During the meeting, cooperation between the two countries within international organisations was discussed, and the importance of the Middle Corridor was underscored. It was noted with satisfaction that transportation by Chinese companies through the Middle Corridor has increased by more than 80 per cent recently, and that trade turnover has grown by 20 per cent.

The parties also expressed satisfaction with the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation between China and Azerbaijan. In addition, cooperation between the New Azerbaijan Party and the Communist Party of China was addressed, with both sides emphasising the importance of exchanging experience in various aspects of governance.

The discussion also touched upon prospects for expanding ties in youth policy, culture, sports, and the potential establishment of a joint Azerbaijani-Chinese university.

The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation in the field of renewable energy. It was noted that the Chinese company BYD is a strategic partner of Azerbaijan in the export of electric vehicles and the local production of several types of electric buses.
