Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's pivotal role in Eurasian transport during a meeting dedicated to transportation issues, emphasizing the country's strategic importance as a hub for the East-West and North-South transport corridors.

“It is impossible to imagine the transport map of Eurasia without Azerbaijan, without its transport infrastructure,” Aliyev said, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

“Currently, the East-West and North-South transport corridors pass through our territory. The volume of cargo transported along these corridors is increasing by the year. In addition to physical infrastructure, other steps have been taken to ensure more efficient transportation of cargo, including attention paid to digitalisation. New formats of cooperation with neighbouring countries have been created and joint ventures, joint companies have been established. In short, Azerbaijan today is one of the indispensable transport hubs of Eurasia,” the Azerbaijani leader noted.

President Aliyev specially emphasized the Zangezur corridor project: "I would like to mention the Zangezur corridor among the new projects. The Zangezur corridor project was proposed by Azerbaijan.”

“After our victory in the Second Karabakh War, this issue was brought to the international agenda and entered international terminology. Today, the Zangezur corridor is a widely accepted term and expression. Of course, we are taking practical steps for the opening of this corridor,” he added.

The head of state noted: “It is impossible to imagine the transport map of Eurasia without Azerbaijan, without its transport infrastructure.”
