President Aliyev congratulates Sandu on Moldova’s 35th independence anniversary

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the people of Moldova on the 35th anniversary of the country’s declaration of independence.

In a congratulatory letter dated August 24, Aliyev conveyed his “best wishes” to Sandu and the Moldovan people on the occasion, Caliber.Az reports, citing state media.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the people of Azerbaijan, I cordially congratulate you and, through you, all your people on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the declaration of independence of the Republic of Moldova and convey my best wishes,” Aliyev said.

The Azerbaijani president highlighted the development of bilateral relations, describing it as “gratifying” that the traditional ties of friendship and cooperation between Azerbaijan and Moldova are developing “along an upward trajectory.”

Aliyev expressed confidence that the two countries would continue working to deepen their relationship.

“I am confident that we will continue to make consistent efforts to comprehensively develop relations between our countries and further enhance our cooperation in line with the will of our peoples, who are bound together by the bonds of friendship,” he said.

Concluding the letter, Aliyev wished Sandu “robust health, happiness, success” in her state activities and the Moldovan people “everlasting peace and prosperity.”

Moldova declared independence from the Soviet Union on August 27, 1991. Azerbaijan and Moldova established diplomatic relations in 1992, and the two countries have since developed cooperation across political, economic and other areas.
