President Aliyev exposes injustice facing Azerbaijani athletes on global stage
During a meeting with wrestlers who became European champions in the team standings and their coaches, President Ilham Aliyev addressed both the achievements of Azerbaijani athletes and the challenges they face on the international stage, particularly in European competitions.
Commenting on the issue of unfair treatment, the head of state noted that, as a rule, injustices against Azerbaijani athletes occur more frequently in European competitions compared to World Championships, Caliber.Az reports via the state media.
“Most likely, not everyone in Europe is pleased with Azerbaijan’s participation in European championships—not only our participation, but also the fact that we emerge victorious over all other European countries,” the Azerbaijani leader added.
Moving from challenges to the internal strengths of Azerbaijani sport, President Ilham Aliyev emphasised the determination of the country’s athletes and the broader significance of their success. “The will to win is very strong in our athletes, and this once again reflects the overall development of our country,” President Ilham Aliyev stated during the same meeting.
He further underlined that these sporting achievements are a source of national pride for a country that sees itself as both victorious and steadily developing.
Continuing his remarks, the head of state highlighted the historical depth of Azerbaijan’s wrestling tradition and the importance of sustaining it for future generations. “Our wrestling has great traditions, and we are keeping these traditions alive,” Aliyev stressed.
“I am glad that alongside our well-known wrestlers, our young athletes are also achieving strong results. This indicates that the training and selection processes are properly structured,” the president noted.
