President Aliyev points to “rich and good traditions” underpinning UK ties In message to newly appointed PM Burnham

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Andy Burnham on his appointment as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, expressing confidence in further strengthening the strategic partnership between Baku and London.

In his congratulatory letter, Aliyev said Azerbaijan attaches “particular importance” to the comprehensive development of relations with the United Kingdom, which are built on “rich and good traditions,” Caliber.Az reports.

“The dynamics of our economic and trade cooperation, the steady enhancement and enrichment of our proven strategic partnership with new content in the energy sector are gratifying,” the president wrote.

Highlighting the energy sector as one of the key areas of cooperation, the Azerbaijani president praised the active involvement of British companies in major projects across Azerbaijan’s oil and non-oil sectors.

“I would particularly like to highlight our long-standing and successful collaboration with bp in both traditional and renewable energy,” he said.

The Azerbaijani leader also stressed the role of British businesses in Azerbaijan’s post-conflict reconstruction efforts, noting that “British companies were among the first foreign firms invited by Azerbaijan following the liberation of our lands from occupation.”

According to Aliyev, their active participation in ongoing reconstruction and development projects “underscores the high level of cooperation between our countries.”

Expressing confidence in the future of bilateral ties, the Azerbaijani president said: “We will successfully continue our joint efforts to further strengthen the friendly relations and our partnership between Azerbaijan and the United Kingdom in line with the interests of our peoples.”

Aliyev once again congratulated Burnham and wished him success in his future responsibilities, reaffirming Baku’s commitment to expanding cooperation with London.
