President Aliyev hosts US delegation as energy diplomacy gains new edge PHOTO

A high-level meeting in Baku between President Ilham Aliyev and a US delegation led by Assistant Secretary of State for Economic, Energy and Business Affairs Caleb Orr underscored the growing strategic momentum in Azerbaijan–United States relations, with a particular focus on energy cooperation, investment prospects, and institutional dialogue frameworks.

President Ilham Aliyev received the delegation on June 1 and expressed his appreciation to Caleb Orr for attending the official opening ceremony of the exhibitions and the Baku Energy Forum held within the framework of “Baku Energy Week,” Caliber.Az reports, citing the presidential website.

He also highlighted with satisfaction that US President Donald Trump had sent a letter to the event, describing this gesture and broader engagement as highly valued, and conveyed his gratitude to the US President.

The head of state noted the successful development of bilateral relations in recent times, emphasising the importance of the Strategic Partnership Charter signed between Azerbaijan and the United States, as well as the establishment of working groups aimed at advancing cooperation across various sectors based on this framework. He also underlined the significance of the upcoming first meeting of the Azerbaijan–US Economic Dialogue, stating that the visit of the delegation led by Caleb Orr provides a valuable opportunity to discuss the future prospects of cooperation.

President Aliyev further drew attention to the importance of the documents signed within the framework of “Baku Energy Week,” highlighting their relevance to ongoing energy and investment initiatives.

Caleb Orr conveyed greetings from US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio to President Ilham Aliyev. The head of state expressed his gratitude for the greetings and asked that his own salutations be passed on to Donald Trump and Marco Rubio.

The US official noted that President Donald Trump’s letter to “Baku Energy Week” reflects the importance the United States attaches to the event. He also stated that the forum demonstrates President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership role in facilitating discussions on global energy market dynamics.

During the meeting, both sides emphasised that “Baku Energy Week” serves as a valuable platform for exchanging views on global energy issues and for discussing cooperation prospects between leading international energy companies, government institutions, investors, and industry experts. It was also noted that Azerbaijan–US relations have entered a new phase of development as a result of the efforts of the two countries’ heads of state.

The discussions also included an exchange of views on issues of mutual interest.
