President Aliyev inaugurates Ganja Bus Depot to modernise city transport PHOTO

27 September 2025 13:30

On September 27, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Ganja Bus Depot, owned and operated by BakuBus LLC.

During the visit, Minister of Digital Development and Transport Rashad Nabiyev briefed the President on the depot’s facilities, as per local media.

Construction of the 300-vehicle depot began in January and spans 10 hectares. The facility includes technical inspection and repair stations, an automated fuel accounting system, and a washing facility capable of cleaning 60 buses per hour. The depot has created 675 jobs, comprising 553 drivers and 122 administrative and technical staff.

BakuBus LLC will operate 18 existing and two new bus routes in Ganja. The city has received a total of 280 EURO6-standard buses, including 45 with a capacity of 54 passengers, 186 with 63-passenger capacity, and 49 accommodating 102 passengers.

The project is a major step in modernising Ganja’s public transportation infrastructure, enhancing passenger comfort and safety, renewing the city’s fleet, and generating employment.

Following a comprehensive analysis, the city’s 32 bus routes have been optimised, with 22 routes selected for operation. A key innovation is the implementation of advanced digital technologies: all buses are equipped with the “CityCard” cashless payment system, allowing payments via bank cards or mobile devices.

To improve connectivity, a Transport Interchange Hub has been established in front of the Railway Station, integrating rail and road transport services. Additionally, 34 modern bus stop pavilions have been installed in high-traffic areas.

Road infrastructure upgrades accompanied the project, including asphalt resurfacing on 97 streets and 128 kilometres of new road markings. Locations for micromobility lanes have been identified, and 10 dedicated taxi stops have been introduced across the city.
