President Aliyev lauds Turkish football team's Euro Championship triumph

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev extended his congratulations to the Turkish national football team for their impressive showing at the European Football Championship held in Germany.

“I congratulate the Turkish national football team, which successfully performed in the European Football Championship in Germany, on the occasion of qualifying for the 1/4 finals and taking a place among the eight strongest European national teams,” said Ilham Aliyev as he shared a post on his official X account, Caliber.Az reports citing Azertag.

He specifically praised Merih Demiral for his outstanding performance, scoring two goals in the round of 16 and being recognized as the match's best player.

President Aliyev criticized the penalty imposed on Demiral as unjust and strongly condemned it.

"I wish the Turkish national team victory in the match against the Netherlands! Long live the Turkic world!" the head of state concluded.
