President Aliyev pushes regional stability in talks with Arab delegation
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Arab Parliament President Mohamed Ahmed Alyammahi on February 11, underlining Azerbaijan’s pivotal role in fostering regional peace, strengthening Islamic solidarity, and deepening cooperation with Arab nations across political and economic spheres.
During the reception, President Aliyev emphasised Azerbaijan’s close relations with countries representing the Arab world, noting that visits by Arab leaders to Azerbaijan, as well as his own trips to Arab states, have played a key role in expanding bilateral ties, Caliber.Az reports, citing the official website of the Azerbaijani head of state.
He also underlined the country’s contributions to reinforcing Islamic solidarity, citing the significance of the Islamic Solidarity Games hosted in Baku.
President Aliyev noted that high-level relations have been established between Azerbaijan and the Arab League and expressed confidence that the delegation’s visit would be productive.
The Arab Parliament President expressed gratitude for the reception and extended congratulations on Azerbaijan’s achievements in advancing the peace agenda between Azerbaijan and Armenia, highlighting President Aliyev’s special role in ensuring peace in the region and the world and noting the need for global leaders of his caliber.
President Aliyev welcomed the recognition and stressed that achieving peace is crucial for regional development, also acknowledging the role of the US President in advancing the peace agenda.
The Arab Parliament President also conveyed deep appreciation on behalf of the Arab people for Azerbaijan’s firm support on issues of Arab concern, including the Palestinian question. President Aliyev reaffirmed that Azerbaijan has always supported resolving the Palestine issue based on the two-state principle, in line with the unified position of the Arab League.
He recalled participating in the Middle East Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh at the invitation of the US President and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, as well as Azerbaijan’s invitation to join the Board of Peace initiative, underscoring the country’s commitment to contributing to the peace process.
President Aliyev highlighted that developing relations with Muslim countries, including Arab states, remains a priority in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy.
The discussion also addressed reconstruction efforts in territories liberated from occupation. President Aliyev noted that during nearly three decades of occupation, Armenia had destroyed numerous cultural and Islamic heritage sites, including mosques, which are now being restored.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Arab Parliament, the legislative body of the Arab League, as well as on other matters of mutual interest.
