COP29: Charles Michel praises Azerbaijan’s climate leadership in talks with President Aliyev PHOTO/UPDATED
On November 11, Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev met with Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azertag.
During the meeting, Charles Michel congratulated Azerbaijan on hosting COP29 and wished success for the event. He expressed hope that important decisions on climate change would be made at this event. He also emphasized that climate change is one of the priority and crucial topics on the European Union's agenda.
Aliyev and Michel discussed the prospects for developing relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan.
The head of state highlighted the mediating role played by President Charles Michel in the negotiation process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting that under his mediation, the structure of the negotiation process and the agenda on key issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan were established.
Notably, Charles Michel arrived in Azerbaijan on November 11 morning to attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
At Heydar Aliyev International Airport, the European Council President was welcomed by Vugar Mustafayev, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense Industry, along with other officials.
