President Aliyev pays tribute to Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II in message to Georgian PM
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter of condolence to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze following the passing of Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, according to domestic media reports.
In his message, President Aliyev expressed deep condolences over the death of His Holiness Ilia II, paying tribute to his life and legacy.
Aliyev stated that Ilia II had devoted his life to noble ideals in the service of his people and humanity as a whole. He emphasised that through his longstanding efforts to promote peace, solidarity, and interreligious understanding, as well as dialogue across the Caucasus region, the Catholicos-Patriarch won the hearts of millions of people, regardless of their national or religious background, and earned profound respect and recognition.
The Azerbaijani president also underscored Ilia II’s significant role in the development and strengthening of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia, highlighting his contribution to fostering mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries.
