President Aliyev hails rapid growth in Baku–Bishkek ties as he meets Kyrgyz delegates
On December 7, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Noting that Baku will host a meeting of the joint intergovernmental commission on cooperation in the economic and humanitarian spheres between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Kyrgyz Republic, President Ilham Aliyev said the commission’s agenda is extensive and considered this a sign of the close interaction between the two countries, Azertac reports.
Emphasising that bilateral relations have been rapidly developing in recent years, the head of state highlighted the role of high-level reciprocal visits in this progress.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed gratitude once again to President Sadyr Japarov and the people of Kyrgyzstan for supporting the reconstruction of Karabakh and East Zangezur, specifically for the construction of the Aikol Manas Secondary School in the village of Khydyrly in the Aghdam district.
The President of Azerbaijan noted that the gift of 200 yaks sent by the President of Kyrgyzstan to the liberated territories also reflects the friendly nature of relations between the two countries.
The head of state also recalled with satisfaction the inauguration of a monument to the prominent Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov in Baku, as well as the opening of the Kyrgyz-Azerbaijani Friendship Park and the Heydar Aliyev School-Gymnasium No. 20 Educational Complex in Bishkek.
Touching upon investment projects, President Ilham Aliyev highlighted the agreement signed between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan to build a hotel on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul.
Stressing that the political cooperation agenda is very broad, President Aliyev noted that the Azerbaijan-Kyrgyz Joint Investment Fund, established by the decision of the two heads of state, has already begun financing its first projects, with several others currently under consideration. He added that Azerbaijan has allocated financial resources to form the fund’s capital and will provide additional funding if the number of projects increases.
President Ilham Aliyev emphasised that Kyrgyzstan was one of the first countries to support Azerbaijan’s involvement in the cooperation format with the Central Asian states, describing this as a reflection of the brotherly nature of bilateral ties.
He noted that Azerbaijan has become a full participant of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and expressed gratitude to Kyrgyzstan and the other countries for this. He said that this development will further strengthen the connection between Central Asia and the South Caucasus, facilitate uninterrupted and stable cargo transportation in both directions, and deepen the brotherly bonds between the nations.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the delegation for the warm reception, Bakyt Torobaev first conveyed the greetings of President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov to the head of state.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked him for the greetings and asked that his own greetings be conveyed to Sadyr Japarov.
The guest noted that bilateral relations, built on common historical roots and centuries-old friendship, have reached the highest level of strategic partnership thanks to the political will of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan.
Highlighting the importance of direct flights between Baku and Bishkek, the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers stressed the need to increase the number of flights in the future.
Bakyt Torobaev said that Kyrgyzstan is eagerly awaiting the visit of the President of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects for cooperation in the fields of energy, transport, mutual investment, as well as in the humanitarian, educational, agricultural and other spheres of mutual interest.
