Azerbaijan, Iran discuss expanding bilateral cooperation and key infrastructure projects PHOTO / UPDATED
On February 23, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev received a delegation led by the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Co-Chair of the Azerbaijan-Iran Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, Farzaneh Sadegh.
During the meeting, both sides welcomed the minister’s previous visit to Azerbaijan and her earlier meeting with President Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Azerbaijani president's official website
Referring to a recent phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Aliyev highlighted discussions on expanding cooperation between the two friendly countries. He emphasised that joint projects implemented by Azerbaijan and Iran would create significant opportunities for both nations and the wider region, expressing hope that Sadegh’s visit would allow further discussion of these initiatives.
Minister Sadegh conveyed greetings from Pezeshkian and stressed Iran’s special attention to relations with Azerbaijan. Aliyev thanked her and asked that his response be passed on to the Iranian president.
Sadegh also noted the historical, religious, and cultural ties linking the two countries. The leaders discussed the importance of the upcoming 17th meeting of the State Commission on Azerbaijan-Iran Cooperation in trade, economic, and humanitarian fields, as well as key infrastructure projects such as the North–South transport corridor and the construction of a road bridge over the Araz River, connecting Aghband and Kalaleh, among other mutually beneficial topics.
