President Aliyev reviews Khankendi-Shusha cable car construction site
On July 3, President Ilham of Azerbaijan personally inspected the site designated for the construction of the new Khankendi-Shusha cable car.
During the visit, the President received a detailed briefing on the technical specifications of this ambitious infrastructure project, as reported by a local media outlet, cited by Caliber.Az.
The planned cable car will stretch approximately 6,000 meters, connecting Khankendi and Shusha with an elevation gain from 844 meters in Khankendi to 1,317 meters in Shusha. Designed to operate at a speed of 8 meters per second, the cable car will offer a travel time of up to 13 minutes.
Officials highlighted that this project is set to significantly enhance tourism in the region by providing an efficient and scenic mode of transportation. Beyond tourism, the cable car will facilitate convenient, reliable travel between Khankendi and Shusha in both directions, further strengthening regional connectivity.
The Khankendi-Shusha cable car project is a key component of Azerbaijan’s ambitious reconstruction efforts in the Karabakh region, which was reclaimed from Armenian control after the 2020 war and fully reintegrated in 2023. The project aligns with Azerbaijan’s vision to transform the region into a hub for tourism, cultural heritage, and economic activity, leveraging its scenic landscapes and historical significance.
