President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Italian President Sergio Mattarella on the occasion of Italy’s Republic Day, marked annually on June 2.
In his message, President Aliyev expressed his best wishes to President Mattarella and the Italian people, highlighting the strong and dynamic ties between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
“Dear Mr. President,
On behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, I sincerely congratulate you and, through you, the friendly people of your country on the occasion of June 2 - the Republic Day - extending my best wishes,” the letter reads.
Aliyev noted the continued development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Italy, underscoring the strategic nature of the partnership based on “friendship, mutual respect, and trust.” He highlighted cooperation across a wide range of areas, including economy, trade, energy, investment, defense, humanitarian affairs, science, and education.
“We are pleased with the dynamic and comprehensive development of interstate relations between Azerbaijan and Italy... Our partnership is enriching year by year with new content,” he stated.
The Azerbaijani president emphasized the role of Italian companies in his country’s economy and praised their involvement in reconstruction efforts in territories liberated by Azerbaijan.
“The participation of your country’s companies in the restoration and reconstruction of the liberated territories is a clear testament of the high level of our partnership,” he wrote.
Energy cooperation, particularly through the Southern Gas Corridor, was also cited as a pillar of the relationship. “Our effective collaboration, built on a broad agenda in this field and our joint efforts within the Southern Gas Corridor, significantly contribute to Europe's energy security,” Aliyev noted.
He also welcomed growing humanitarian ties, especially the establishment of the Italy-Azerbaijan University in collaboration with five leading Italian institutions. “The Italy-Azerbaijan University... exemplifies the diversification of our cooperation,” the letter said.
Aliyev concluded by reaffirming Azerbaijan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Italy. “I highly value the growing political dialogue between our countries... I am confident that we will successfully continue our joint efforts to strengthen the friendship and multidimensional strategic partnership between our countries.”
“On this festive day, I wish you robust health and success in your endeavors and the friendly people of Italy everlasting peace and prosperity,” President Aliyev wrote.
