President of Azerbaijan views progress of reconstruction work, launches several facilities in Shusha, Lachin

11 May 2024 10:12

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev examined the ongoing reconstruction of the Khankandi-Shusha-Lachin highway.

Chairman of the Board of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Saleh Mammadov briefed the head of state on the progress of reconstruction, Caliber.Az reports citing AZERTAC.

The reconstruction project for the Khankandi-Shusha-Lachin highway is advancing, with a total length of 34 kilometers. The second-class technical road has a soil foundation width of 15 meters, with each lane measuring 3.75 meters.

The construction plans include two bridges, four tunnels, and multiple culverts. Drilling has been completed at the entrance and exit portals for the first and third tunnels, measuring 440 and 1,100 meters in length, respectively. Work on the other two tunnels, with lengths of 540 and 300 meters, is set to start soon.

President Ilham Aliyev also laid the foundation stone for the Turshsu settlement in Shusha district.

Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, and Bunyad Gasimov, Director General of the “Baku Landscaping Service” LLC, briefed the president on the upcoming developments in the settlement.

Before the occupation, the Turshsu settlement was the second most densely populated residential area for Azerbaijanis in Shusha district after the city of Shusha. Located approximately 17 kilometers from the city along the Shusha-Lachin road, the settlement was occupied on May 15, 1992.

According to the reconstruction project, the total area of the Turshu settlement will be 126.46 hectares, with reconstruction works initially covering an area of 79.37 hectares in the first phase.

President Ilham Aliyev then inspected completed works in the village of Sus in Lachin district and met with relocated residents.

Masim Mammadov, Special Representative of the President in Lachin district, and Rovshan Rzayev, Chairman of the State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and IDPs, briefed the head of state on the completed projects in the village.

In May 1992, when the Lachin district was occupied by Armenian armed forces, the village of Sus was home to 53 families comprising 203 residents. The plan is to relocate a total of 59 families, consisting of 214 individuals, to the village, which has been completely rebuilt. Currently, 20 families (75 individuals) have already been relocated to the village.

In the village, which spans 25 hectares, 13 two-room, 28 three-room, 14 four-room, and 4 five-room individual houses were constructed. The village also includes a 132-seat secondary school and a 50-seat kindergarten.

Afterward, President Ilham Aliyev met with the residents who had been relocated to the village.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also attended the inauguration of the “Zabukh” and “Garigishlag” small hydroelectric power plants (SHPP) owned by Azerenerji OJSC in Lachin district.

Azerenerji President Baba Rzayev provided President Ilham Aliyev with an overview of the work completed at these power plants.

The “Zabukh” SHPP has a capacity of 2.8 MW and produces 8-9 million kWh of green energy annually. The " Garigishlag" SHPP, with a capacity of 4 MW, produces 11-12 million kWh annually.

To integrate the power plants into the national energy system, new substations and 35 kV power transmission lines were constructed. In addition, optical cable lines were installed to connect the stations to a centralized SCADA system, allowing intelligent control, real-time monitoring, and remote control from Baku. The " Zabukh" SHPP, located on the Zabukh river, known for its high flow rate, can operate efficiently even during low-water seasons.

President Ilham Aliyev launched the stations.
