Putin: West's "economic blitzkrieg" against Russia fails

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said at a meeting with the leaders of the factions of the State Duma that the "economic blitzkrieg" of Western countries against Russia failed.

"Illegal measures imposed against Russia create difficulties for us. This is an obvious fact. But not at all what the initiators of the economic blitzkrieg against Russia were counting on," the president commented on the effect of the sanctions, Gazeta.ru reports.

Putin also said that the purpose of the sanctions was "to demoralize people, but they miscalculated". According to the president, the Western countries have also failed here.

“Nothing worked and I’m sure it won’t work in the future," Putin said.
