Latvia announces tender for anti-tank defences along Russian border
Latvia's State Centre for Defence Logistics and Procurement has launched a new tender to acquire specialized equipment aimed at strengthening the country’s eastern border with Russia, particularly anti-tank barriers designed to impede hostile military vehicles.
The procurement list includes thousands of anti-tank "hedgehogs," concrete blocks known as "dragon’s teeth," and other components intended to obstruct or completely halt enemy advances if necessary, Caliber.Az reports, citing Latvian media.
Contractors have until September 1 to submit their bids.
The tender plans to procure over 4,800 fence stakes, more than 1,000 anti-tank structures, and various other materials required for constructing defensive barriers.
Since March of this year, Latvia’s National Armed Forces have been actively reinforcing the eastern border, particularly in the Latgale region. Tens of thousands of domestically manufactured defensive structures have already been installed near the borders with Russia and Belarus.
In total, €45 million has been allocated in 2025 for the military fortification of Latvia’s eastern frontier.
