France reports 300 drowning deaths in two months amid scorching heat

Around 300 people have drowned in France over the past two months amid an extreme heatwave, the country’s Sports Minister Marina Ferrari told France Inter radio.

She specified that 301 people have drowned since June 19, adding that the figure is 14% higher than during the same period last year.

The fatal incidents have occurred both in open water, including canals and other bodies of water, and in private swimming pools.
