Starlink’s constellation hits 11,000 satellites, leaving rivals far behind

23 August 2026 15:25

The number of Starlink communications satellites in orbit has reached 11,000, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said on X. No other satellite provider in the world has come close to this figure.

According to the KeepTrack catalog, as of July 2026, the five largest constellations of spacecraft in low Earth orbit were distributed as follows:

  • Starlink — 10,783 satellites;

  • OneWeb — 654;

  • Amazon Leo (Kuiper) — 394;

  • Qianfan — 238;

  • Guowang — 186.

Starlink accounts for more than half of the 19,447 payloads in Earth orbit, more than five times the combined figure for the other 10 largest constellations.

Since May 2019, SpaceX has launched 12,444 Starlink satellites, around 1,660 of which have already deorbited and burned up in the atmosphere. This means SpaceX has deorbited more satellites than OneWeb, which ranks second, has launched throughout its entire operational history.

Amazon Leo ranks only third. Its first-generation constellation is planned to consist of 3,236 satellites, and the company has also been authorized to deploy an additional 4,500.

Amazon was required to deploy 1,600 satellites by July 2026 but failed to meet the deadline and asked for an extension until 2028.

A constellation of nearly 400 satellites is already sufficient to begin providing basic services, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy told investors during the company’s quarterly earnings report.

Meanwhile, Starlink’s customer base has surpassed 12 million subscribers.
