Reuters: UG Solutions in talks with Board of Peace over potential Gaza return
A U.S. security contractor that previously deployed armed veterans to guard aid distribution sites in Gaza is in discussions with President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace about a possible future role in the enclave, the company said on February 11.
UG Solutions disclosed the talks after Reuters reported that the North Carolina-based firm was recruiting Arabic-speaking contractors with combat experience for assignments in undisclosed locations. A source with direct knowledge of the Board’s planning confirmed that discussions with the company are under way.
UG Solutions had provided security services last year for the U.S.- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation. Its operations were halted following a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in October.
The firm previously faced criticism from the United Nations over the deaths of Palestinians attempting to access its aid distribution sites in areas where Israeli forces were deployed. Hundreds were killed in incidents in which Israeli troops opened fire, according to U.N. accounts. The Israeli military has said its soldiers fired to address threats and disperse crowds.
In a statement on February 11, a UG Solutions spokesperson said the company had “provided information and proposals to the U.S.-led Board of Peace”, a body established by President Trump to advance his plan to end the Gaza war.
“Our proposal was received positively, but until the Board of Peace clarifies what its priorities are for security, UG Solutions is planning internally for a range of possible ways to support efforts in Gaza,” the spokesperson said.
The source familiar with the Board’s planning said talks with UG Solutions and several other groups have been ongoing for weeks, but no final decisions have been made.
Representatives for the Board of Peace and the U.S. State Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
