Russia claims Ukrainian operative behind thwarted FSB attack in Crimea VIDEO
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported that it thwarted an attempted terrorist attack targeting a regional FSB building in occupied Crimea, alleging that the plot was organized by a member of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces identified as Ivan Krinov.
According to the FSB, the Ukrainian operative allegedly manipulated a local Crimean resident into participating in the attack by posing as an FSB officer, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
The man was instructed to carry a portable audio speaker into the administrative building of the FSB directorate for the Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, ostensibly to assist in identifying alleged “traitors.” In reality, the device was reportedly rigged with explosives and intended to detonate inside the building, killing the courier on the spot.
The suspect was detained at a security checkpoint during a routine inspection, during which officers discovered a suspicious item. The explosive device was described as a fragmentation high-explosive charge containing approximately one kilogram of foreign-made explosives, along with shrapnel in the form of ball bearings.
The FSB further claimed that Krinov had previously attempted a similar operation, allegedly dispatching a Russian woman to Russian security services with an icon concealed with explosives, characterizing the tactic as the use of a so-called “human bomb.”
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against Ivan Krinov on charges including attempted terrorist attack, aiding terrorist activity, and illegal trafficking of explosive devices. The FSB said he will be placed on an international wanted list.
