Russia, Ethiopia explore joint development of gas fields, fertilizer production
Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov has said that Russia and Ethiopia are discussing a potential partnership aimed at jointly developing natural gas fields and producing fertilizers.
Reshetnikov highlighted that Ethiopian officials have offered Russia access to the country's rich resource base, which includes substantial natural gas reserves, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
"Our colleagues from Ethiopia are offering us their substantial resource base for exploration and investment. There are gas fields in this region, and our partners are also interested in the production of mineral fertilizers," he stated.
The proposed collaboration presents significant opportunities for both nations, focusing on energy extraction and agricultural development. Should the partnership move forward, it could boost Russia's influence in Africa while contributing to Ethiopia's economic growth, especially in the energy and agriculture sectors.
The announcement signals growing ties between Russia and Ethiopia, with both countries seeking to enhance their bilateral trade and investment relations. Reshetnikov noted that Russia and Serbia agreed to collaborate on the development of joint oil transport infrastructure within Serbian territory.
He stressed that the two countries signed a memorandum of cooperation between major oil and gas companies from Russia and Serbia. This agreement will serve as the foundation for creating and maintaining oil transport infrastructure in Serbia.
Earlier, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed his gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin during a phone conversation, thanking Russia for ensuring the supply of sufficient natural gas to Serbia during the winter months at very favourable prices. This collaboration strengthens the growing ties between the two nations, particularly in the energy sector, and marks a significant step toward enhancing regional energy security.
