Russian foreign minister assures Tajik counterpart on border checks, emphasizes anti-terrorism measures
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a telephone call to Tajik counterpart Sirojiddin Muhriddin to provide detailed explanations regarding the border checks implemented by Russian services.
Lavrov emphasized that these measures aim to prevent terrorism, particularly in light of the recent terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.
During the conversation, Lavrov reassured Muhriddin that the thorough checks on foreigners entering Russia are not targeted at any specific nation or religion but are instead temporary measures taken in response to security concerns. The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of maintaining the long-standing strategic partnership and alliance between Russia and Tajikistan.
This communication comes in the wake of Tajikistan expressing its concerns to the Russian ambassador on April 29 regarding alleged violations of Tajik citizens' rights.
