Zelenskyy insists no decisions on Ukraine without Kyiv ahead of Trump-Putin Alaska summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has unequivocally stated that US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be able to make any decisions regarding Ukraine during their upcoming meeting in Alaska without Kyiv’s direct involvement.

Speaking at the Ukrainian forum Youth Is Here, Zelenskyy emphasized that excluding Ukraine from such discussions is unacceptable, Caliber.Az reports.

He acknowledged the importance of the talks between Trump and Putin but underscored that “discussing Ukraine without Ukraine is impossible, and no one will accept such a format.”

“Therefore, the conversation between the US president and Putin can certainly be important for their bilateral track. But they cannot make any decisions about Ukraine without us,” Zelenskyy stressed, expressing hope that Trump understands this fundamental principle.

Looking ahead, Zelenskyy expressed confidence that a future trilateral meeting involving himself, Putin, and Trump will take place, highlighting the necessity of such a summit for ending the ongoing conflict. “We will stand on our truth, do everything to end this war. And there are things that are in your heart, there are things that are in your Constitution,” he added.

The highly anticipated Trump-Putin meeting is scheduled for August 15, in Alaska. Ahead of the summit, Trump has publicly stated his intention to urge Putin to end the war against Ukraine. However, he also affirmed that any peace agreement must be negotiated directly between Kyiv and Moscow, asserting, “I would not conclude a peace agreement on Ukraine with Putin, since this must be done by Kyiv and Moscow.”
