Saudi Arabia to host informal summit with Gulf, Jordan, Egypt leaders
Saudi Arabia will host an informal meeting on February 21 involving leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, Jordan, and Egypt, aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination.
The talks, set to take place in Riyadh at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, are part of ongoing consultations between the countries, the source added, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Such gatherings have been held regularly due to the close ties between the leaders.
Discussions are expected to focus on the upcoming emergency Arab League summit in Cairo on March 4, with developments in the Palestinian territories high on the agenda, Saudi political analyst Khaled al-Habbas said.
He said the meeting underscores Saudi Arabia’s regional and global diplomatic role, pointing to Riyadh’s recent hosting of US-Russia talks aimed at easing tensions over Ukraine.
The Arab League summit next month will address the situation in Gaza, with Arab states formulating a response to US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Gaza’s population and impose US control over the enclave – a move widely condemned across the Arab world and beyond.
Egypt is considering a plan to establish "safe zones" within Gaza as part of its reconstruction efforts, which will be presented at the summit, sources said.
