Trump breaks silence amid health speculation, declares “never felt better”
President Donald Trump broke his silence on concerns over his health following a days-long absence from public view that fuelled rampant speculation about his well-being.
After reappearing at his golf course over the weekend, Trump, 79, posted on Truth Social: “NEVER FELT BETTER IN MY LIFE.” The comment was made in response to conservative commentator Rogan O’Handley, who criticised the perceived double standard in media coverage of presidential appearances:
“Joe Biden would go multiple days at a time without any public appearances, and the media would say he’s ‘sharp’ and ‘top of his game.’ Meanwhile, he was wearing diapers and napping,” O’Handley wrote. “President Trump puts in more public work hours than any other POTUS in US history, and media freaks out if he disappears for 24 hours.”
Social media speculation intensified after journalist Laura Rozen noted Trump had no public events scheduled for Labour Day weekend. The White House attributed a bruise on his right hand to shaking hands “all day, every day” and said his swollen ankles were due to chronic venous insufficiency.
Vice President JD Vance weighed in, telling USA Today he is “very confident the president of the United States is in good shape, is going to serve out the remainder of his term and do great things for the American people. And if, God forbid, there’s a terrible tragedy, I can’t think of better on-the-job training than what I’ve gotten over the last 200 days.”
