US envoy: "Plan B for Syria is chaos, unity only path"
US Ambassador to Ankara and Special Representative for Syria Tom Barrack has said that any alternative to national unity in Syria would lead to chaos, stressing his support for Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa.
He underscored that a unified Syria was the only viable option for the country’s future. In his view, other scenarios would result in instability, with chaos being the likely outcome. Barrack also reaffirmed his confidence in president al-Sharaa’s leadership, noting that various ethnic and religious groups in Syria, including the Druze, Kurds, and Alevis, might desire their own states, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
In discussing the complex landscape of Syria's conflicts, Barrack subtly referred to several terrorist organisations operating in the region. While he did not name them directly, he mentioned that groups such as the PKK and YPG were active in the country. He expressed his belief that these organisations, which he referred to as “three-letter acronyms,” were hostile towards him and his efforts. Barrack avoided using their names, choosing instead to focus on the broader issue of their presence and influence in Syria.
On US-Türkiye relations, Barrack offered a positive assessment of Türkiye’s role as a steadfast ally of the United States. He remarked that while Türkiye is often misunderstood, it has been a reliable partner, contributing significantly to NATO alongside the US.
Regarding Israel's actions in the Middle East, Barrack made a striking comment about Israel's approach to its borders. He suggested that Israel operates beyond the boundaries established by the Sykes-Picot Agreement, stating that Israel views these borders as irrelevant. According to Barrack, Israel acts according to its own strategic interests, moving freely and doing whatever is necessary to ensure the safety and security of its people.
