London arrests dozens over support for banned group Palestine Action
The Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command has charged a further 47 people in connection with support for the proscribed group Palestine Action, bringing the total number of individuals charged in London for such offences to 114.
All 47 were arrested in the capital on July 19, and the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charges, which have been communicated to the individuals via postal charge requisitions, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in late October.
Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Flanagan, Head of Operations at the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said the force is swiftly and efficiently investigating those arrested for showing support towards Palestine Action and is working closely with the CPS to make further charging decisions in the coming days.
She emphasised that while the right to demonstrate peacefully is fully recognised and thousands continue to protest in support of Palestine without breaking the law, anyone considering showing support for Palestine Action should reconsider, as participation could result in arrest, investigation, and prosecution.
Those charged face serious potential consequences if convicted, including a maximum prison sentence of six months, a record with the Disclosure and Barring Service that could affect employment or university admission, potential restrictions on international travel to countries including the US, Australia, Japan, and EU nations from 2026 under ETIAS, and possible disciplinary action or expulsion from professional bodies.
The Met stressed that their investigations target only those supporting the proscribed group, not peaceful demonstrations in general.
