South Korea to establish drone operations command in 2023
South Korea's defence ministry has said that the country's military will launch a drone operations command in the second half of 2023.
The ministry said the planned command would carry out various missions by utilising unmanned aircraft, psychological warfare, electromagnetic warfare and strike operations, Yonhap News Agency reported on April 26.
The ministry put up a public notice on the enactment of a decree to establish the drone operations command amid growing military threats from North Korea's drone incursions.
The planned command will make it possible to carry out strategic and operational missions "systematically and efficiently" on the battlefield, the ministry added.
After North Korea's 26 drone infiltration, South Korea's military released a plan in January to set up a specialised unit and a series of anti-drone measures, such as holding regular air defence drills and securing drone jamming guns.
