Suspected arsonist arrested over massive Washington wildfire VIDEO

Authorities in the US state of Washington have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for one of the state's largest wildfires, as more than 65,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes.

The wildfire has destroyed more than 700 structures in Spokane County and burned over 3,000 hectares, Caliber.Az reports, citing CNN.

Firefighters have not yet brought the blaze under control. There have been no confirmed reports of deaths or injuries.

Washington Governor Bob Ferguson said authorities are trying to contact 14 people who had previously requested assistance but have since stopped responding.

He stressed, however, that they are not currently considered missing.

Police later announced the arrest of 37-year-old Aaron Farinacci, a previously convicted man suspected of starting the fire.

Officers found matches and a lighter in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Farinacci has been charged with arson, and a search warrant has been issued for his residence.

Local authorities believe his actions may have sparked the Old Trails Fire, which has become one of the largest wildfires recorded in Washington state.
