Spain bus crash leaves 46 injured, four in critical condition VIDEO
At least 46 people were injured, four of them critically, after a coach crashed into a building and a bus stop in the city of Lleida, in Spain's northeastern region of Catalonia, triggering a major emergency response.
The accident occurred at around 7:15 a.m. local time on Rambla Ferran, one of Lleida's busiest streets, as the coach was traveling from Lleida to La Granja d'Escarp, Mirror reports.
According to local reports, the coach was carrying 55 passengers, most of whom were agricultural workers heading to fruit-picking jobs.
Emergency services treated 46 people following the crash. Four victims were reported to be in critical condition, nine sustained moderate injuries, and 33 suffered minor injuries.
The vehicle struck the facade of a building and a nearby bus stop, causing significant damage to the front of the coach. Images from the scene showed the bus tilted forward as firefighters, police officers, and paramedics worked behind a security cordon.
The road remained closed while emergency crews continued rescue and recovery operations, according to Spanish newspaper Diari Segre.
The cause of the crash has not yet been determined, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.
Catalan President Salvador Illa said he had been in contact with Lleida's mayor to receive updates on the situation and expressed his gratitude to the emergency services for their response to the crash.
