Tbilisi mayor: Authorities to play by Georgian rules
Secretary General of the "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" ruling party, Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze has said that the Georgian authorities on the way to European integration will play according to the "Georgian rules".
Kaladze commented on MEP Andrius Kubilius’s statement that Georgia will not receive the status of a candidate for joining the EU if it does not play according to “EU’s rules”, the Georgian Channel One reports, according to Gazeta.ru.
“This is part of the game and blackmail that we have been observing all this time, and the public sees it too. The Georgian authorities will play by Georgian rules, act in the interests of the country and in the national interests of our people. Our government has done its best and is doing its best on this difficult path. However, if a political decision is made not to give the status of a candidate to Georgia, then let them keep it for themselves,” the mayor noted.
He said that the staged performance around Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili, whose imprisonment at home causes criticism in the EU, is required for the emergence of confrontation.
Kaladze also added that the Georgian authorities are unacceptable to many sides, because they are doing their best to realise the interests of the Georgian people and refuse to enter into conflict with Ukraine.
