Armenia has no objections to documents agreed in CSTO Russian official says
Aide to the Russian president Yury Ushakov has said that Armenia will not participate in the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) session on November 28.
"Armenia will not participate, but its representatives have informed us in advance that they have no objections to the adoption of the agreed-upon documents at the summit," Ushakov said, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
He noted that Russia hopes that Armenia will eventually return to working within the CSTO. The next session of the CSTO Collective Security Council will be held in Astana on November 28.
The Collective Security Treaty Organisation is a regional intergovernmental organisation consisting of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan. The primary goal of the CSTO is to protect its member states from external military aggression.
In late August, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenia had frozen its participation in all CSTO bodies and had no plans to make further decisions at the moment.
He noted that the organisation poses threats to Armenia's security, its future existence, and sovereignty. Earlier, Kazakhstan proposed changes to the CSTO agreement.
