Tehran, Beirut call covers Lebanon situation, regional developments
Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Minister, held a telephone conversation with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, during which the two sides discussed the situation in Lebanon and the wider region, as well as the progress of talks in Islamabad and other issues of mutual interest.
According to a Telegram post by the Iranian foreign minister, both officials strongly condemned what they described as “aggressive actions” by Israel against countries in the region, including Lebanon, and stressed the need to intensify international efforts to halt such actions in southern Lebanon.
They said the situation had led to the deaths and injuries of thousands of people, the destruction of residential areas and infrastructure, and the mass displacement of civilians.
During the call, Araghchi provided an update on diplomatic efforts mediated by Pakistan and highlighted what he described as the resilience of the Lebanese people in the face of attacks, reaffirming Iran’s support for Lebanon.
He also stated that ending Israel’s “aggression” against Lebanon is part of the ceasefire arrangements between Iran and the United States and would be taken into account in any further processes.
In turn, Berri referred to what he described as repeated violations of the ceasefire by Israel and emphasised the need for stronger international pressure to hold Israel accountable. He also expressed appreciation for Iran’s support for Beirut’s positions.
