Trump: Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict nearing "successful conclusion"
US President Donald Trump has said that the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia is close to a “successful conclusion,” crediting US involvement in the peace process.
Speaking during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on July 14, Trump spoke at length about US involvement in world conflicts, stating that the country has been very successful in settling wars, Caliber.Az reports.
“You have India and Pakistan. You have Rwanda and Congo. That was going for 30 years. India, by the way, and Pakistan would have been a nuclear war within another week the way that was going. We did that through trade. I said ‘We are not going to talk to you about trade unless you get this thing settled’ and they did,” he said.
Mentioning different conflicts that US helped resolve, Trump also commented on Azerbaijan-Armenia.
“And we’ve solved another one. One that we just seem to have — Armenia and Azerbaijan. It looks like that is going to come to a conclusion, successful conclusion," he stated.
The president highlighted the use of trade negotiations as a diplomatic tool in de-escalating international conflicts.
