Turkish leader cautious on prospects for swift resolution to Ukrainian conflict
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has expressed his belief that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is unlikely to conclude soon.
The president made these remarks during his speech at the graduation ceremony for officers of the National Defence University in Istanbul, Caliber.Az reports citing the Russian media.
He highlighted that Türkiye is actively working towards a peaceful resolution of the Ukraine conflict.
"The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has persisted for nearly two and a half years. It is a conflict where neither side can achieve decisive superiority, resulting in significant casualties and destruction. Regrettably, there appears to be a lack of strong determination to swiftly end the conflict," stated the president.
He added that Türkiye is exerting its utmost efforts to halt a conflict that serves no one's interests.
During a press briefing following his participation in the NATO summit in Washington from July 9-11, President Erdogan emphasised the importance of resolving the Ukrainian conflict through diplomatic means.
The president reiterated Türkiye's readiness to serve as a negotiation platform, similar to previous talks held in Istanbul.
President Erdogan's statements highlight Türkiye's proactive diplomatic engagement and its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region. As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, Türkiye's diplomatic efforts underscore its role as a key player in international affairs, advocating for peaceful resolutions to complex conflicts.
