Ukraine says overnight strikes hit Russian oil refinery, Engels airbase

02 August 2026 13:41

Ukraine's Defense Forces carried out overnight strikes on August 2 targeting the Saratov oil refinery, the Engels airbase, a fuel depot in Russia's Kaluga region, and several other military facilities.

Following the attack, a fire broke out at the refinery, Caliber.Az reports, citing a statement by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The General Staff said the facility has an annual processing capacity of around 7 million tonnes of oil and plays a role in supplying Russia's military and defense-industrial complex. It also noted that a successful strike had been carried out on the Engels airbase, where Russia's Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers are based, adding that the attack triggered a fire at the site.

In addition, Ukrainian forces said they struck the Lyudinovskaya fuel depot in the Kaluga region and a facility used for the storage, preparation, and launch of attack drones near Navlya in Russia's Bryansk region.
