Türkiye detains over 200 suspects in massive anti-FETÖ sweep across 60 provinces
Turkish security forces have carried out a large-scale operation targeting the financial structure of the FETÖ terrorist organisation, resulting in the detention of 244 suspects across 60 provinces, TRT Haber reports.
The operation, coordinated from the western province of Izmir, aimed to dismantle a covert financial network linked to the Gülenist Terror Group (FETÖ). A total of 371 arrest warrants were issued as part of the investigation, with authorities confirming that 244 individuals have already been taken into custody.
Investigators revealed that 79 suspects are currently abroad, while efforts to apprehend the remaining 48 are still underway.
The crackdown was launched following intelligence gathered from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) and analysis of digital evidence seized in earlier operations. One key breakthrough came during an investigation into a suspect selling food products via social media in Izmir, who was previously detained in connection with FETÖ.
Authorities uncovered a clandestine financial system managed by suspects based in both the United States and within Türkiye. This system allegedly designated specific individuals responsible for the collection and distribution of funds, which were funnelled to FETÖ members in exile.
The illicit network is believed to have facilitated transactions worth approximately 7.5 million Turkish liras. The financial trails traced through this system included accounts linked to fugitive FETÖ members residing in North America, the Balkans, and various European countries.
Turkish officials continue to pursue the remaining suspects as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to dismantle the remnants of FETÖ’s domestic and international operations.
