Türkiye’s envoy casts Baku as intellectual heart of Turkic world
Azerbaijan is one of the principal centres of the Turkic world, Türkiye’s ambassador to the country, Birol Akgün, has said.
Speaking at an international academic conference in Baku titled “Founders and Lessons of the First Turkological Congress: History and Modernity”, Akgün said the gathering underscored Azerbaijan’s historic and cultural importance, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The event, held in the Azerbaijani capital, brought together scholars from across the Turkic world. According to the ambassador, the very fact that researchers had convened in Baku reflected the city’s global recognition and enduring significance.
“This conference is not merely an academic platform for discussing scholarly issues,” Akgün said. “It is a tangible demonstration of the search for a common scientific foundation among Turkic peoples in the fields of science, archaeology, history and culture.”
The ambassador also addressed relations between Azerbaijan and Türkiye, describing them as strategic in nature and rooted in shared heritage.
“Ties between our countries go beyond diplomatic and strategic partnership,” he said. “These relations are shaped by a common history and culture. The concept of ‘One nation, two states’ is not simply a slogan, but a fundamental principle.”
