Ukraine hits dome of sixth power unit of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have hit the dome of the sixth power unit of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
“The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant was slightly damaged. There were no casualties and threats of violation of safety,” TASS reports citing the Telegram channel of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
The radiation level at the station and the surrounding area has not changed and is at a level corresponding to the normal operation of power units and does not exceed natural levels.
Kamikaze drones of the Ukrainian Armed Forces were observed in the area near the cargo port and canteen located on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant on April 7. A truck unloading food was damaged.
The six-reactor, six-gigawatt Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, located in the city of Energodar, is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Russian forces took control of the facility in late February 2022. Since then, the Ukrainian army has periodically shelled both residential areas in Energodar and the premises of the power plant using drones, heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).
