Ukraine’s victory plan to be open to all, including Russia President Zelenskyy says
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced that Ukraine's victory plan will be accessible to all countries, including Russia, in a bid to facilitate dialogue and peace.
During a meeting with journalists on September 20, Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of including Russia in discussions, stating, "There can't be an end to the war without one of the sides," Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
He expressed readiness for Russia to participate in the upcoming second peace summit, highlighting that allies have echoed this sentiment.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine is actively developing its victory plan, with three points already prepared and both online and offline meetings scheduled. He aims for the plan to be finalized by early November, providing a structured basis for negotiations with Russia.
"If they don't like it, it will be clear what their reaction is," he added, suggesting that continued hostility from Russia would indicate a desire to prolong the conflict.
In conjunction with these diplomatic efforts, Zelenskyy also expressed optimism about US support, hoping that President Joe Biden would make pivotal decisions to bolster Ukraine’s defence capabilities before the end of his term. During a closed meeting, Zelenskyy articulated his belief in Biden's historic mission to strengthen Ukraine, noting that effective dialogue in the past has led to significant shifts in US policy.
"I believe this is a historic mission, at least from Ukraine's perspective," Zelenskyy stated.
"President Biden has his own life and political career, and I can't say what matters most to him. My focus is solely on this war."
He indicated that Biden's decisions regarding support for Ukraine would depend on various factors, particularly his willingness to consider Ukraine's arguments.
Zelenskyy reflected on their past interactions, noting, "We've had some significant and challenging discussions in our relationship with Biden, and he has shifted his views in the past."
Additionally, Zelenskyy expressed interest in hearing Vice President Kamala Harris' thoughts on his "plan to win," highlighting the importance of engaging with US leadership as Ukraine strategizes for its future.
