German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who was on a visit to Ukraine on June 30, handed over a batch of military vehicles to units of the National Guard and the State Border Guard Service.
Wadephul met with Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Ihor Klymenko, to deliver the latest package of assistance to the Interior Ministry’s units, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry.
The German minister stressed that his country remains steadfast in its position and will continue to support Ukraine and provide the necessary assistance.
“By coming here, we want to show that we firmly stand by your side and will continue to offer support. In addition to words, concrete assistance is also needed, and we are providing you with the appropriate equipment and resources. This delivery is a symbolic act and is meant to once again demonstrate that Germany stands with Ukraine,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, German newspaper Bild writes that Wadephul handed over a total of 65 Mercedes Unimog trucks to the Ukrainian border guard. All used but in good condition. The National Guard also received ten brand-new VW Amarok off-road vehicles from the leading CDU foreign policy official.
Germany has been one of Ukraine’s key supporters since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in February 2022, providing over €28 billion in military, financial, and humanitarian aid by mid-2025. This includes advanced weaponry like Leopard 2 tanks, IRIS-T air defence systems, and Gepard anti-aircraft guns, as well as non-lethal support such as military vehicles, medical supplies, and training.
