Poland’s President-elect Nawrocki affirms plans to meet Ukrainian president
Poland’s President-elect Karol Nawrocki has confirmed his intention to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, signalling a continuation of close bilateral ties between the two countries. However, the exact timing of the meeting remains undecided.
In an interview following his election victory, Nawrocki emphasised the importance of maintaining strong cooperation with Ukraine amid ongoing regional challenges, Caliber.Az reports, citing Polish media.
He described Poland and Ukraine as partners with many shared interests and objectives, while acknowledging some unresolved historical and agricultural issues that require dialogue.
“Poland and Ukraine have many common goals and shared interests. I will certainly hold talks with President Zelenskyy in an appropriate series of meetings,” Nawrocki said.
He also stressed that future relations with Ukraine must be based on partnership and mutual respect.
Nawrocki reiterated his position that Ukraine’s accession to NATO is currently impossible due to the country’s ongoing conflict, which could potentially escalate into a wider war involving all NATO members.
Likewise, he expressed reservations about Ukraine’s unconditional entry into the European Union, advocating instead for a pragmatic and strategic partnership.
The President-elect, who will be sworn in on August 6, also highlighted his intention to visit all neighbouring countries, underlining the significance of regional diplomacy.
