UAE ends remaining counterterrorism deployment in Yemen
The United Arab Emirates has announced the withdrawal of its remaining counterterrorism personnel from Yemen, the Ministry of Defence said on December 30.
The ministry said the UAE has participated in the Arab Coalition since 2015, supporting efforts to restore legitimacy in Yemen, combat terrorist organisations, and promote security and stability for the Yemeni people, Caliber.Az reports via Emirates News Agency.
It noted that the UAE had previously concluded its broader military presence in 2019, after completing assigned missions.
Remaining personnel had been limited to specialised counterterrorism roles, operating in coordination with international partners.
The ministry said the decision to end this deployment was taken “of its own volition,” following a comprehensive assessment of the current phase and to ensure the safety and effectiveness of operations.
The UAE stressed that the move aligns with its ongoing commitments to regional security and stability.
