Bishkek cancels New Year fireworks over environmental concerns

The Bishkek city administration has announced that there will be no New Year fireworks display in the Kyrgyz capital.

Despite the cancellation, residents and visitors can still enjoy a full programme of festive activities at Ala-Too Square, Caliber.Az reports.

The celebrations will include concerts by local performers, a food court, an ice rink, and other entertainment options.

The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision had previously urged citizens to avoid fireworks, citing worsening environmental conditions in the city.
