North Korean leader inspects munitions plant, hails rocket launcher production PHOTO
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited a major munitions manufacturing facility last week to inspect the production of weapons and combat equipment, state media said.
During the visit on December 28, Kim reviewed the production of multiple rocket launch systems intended for deployment with frontline units of the Korean People’s Army, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The inspection was carried out under a decision of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea’s Central Military Commission.
Kim was accompanied by senior party and military officials, including Defence Minister No Kwang Chol and Jo Chun Ryong, a secretary of the Workers’ Party’s Central Committee, KCNA said.
The North Korean leader praised workers at the plant for increasing output and meeting production targets set by the party, the report said.
He described the multiple rocket launch system as a key strike capability for the country’s artillery forces and said it would play a central role in modernising long-range firepower.
KCNA quoted Kim as saying the system would be used in large quantities for concentrated strikes in military operations and could serve both operational and strategic purposes due to its accuracy and destructive power.
Kim also outlined plans for further modernising the facility, calling for improvements to production structures and technical processes to expand output and meet future weapons production goals.
He stressed the need for continued technological upgrades across the munitions industry to support the modernisation of North Korea’s armed forces.
